Weekend Musings...

 Hello, fans of shabbiness...
It's the weekend!

Which doesn't exactly mean a lot of "relaxation" around here, at least for us "grown-ups".

As performers, Mr. Shabby and I spend most of our weekends working.

And this is one of those weekends...
when we pass like ships in the night, blowing a kiss as one comes home from a gig and the other bolts out the door to get to their's...

But I am not complaining...
We wouldn't trade this life for anything.....

although, I would prefer a Valentine's Day date
to a Valentine's Day rehearsal
Just sayin'.......

So, after the Linzer Heart Extravaganza,
I played around with my wire stand, flowers and crochet doilies...
and came up with the latest "shabby-but-fab-y-mirror" vignette.

When I took photos a few days ago, the tulips were this rich creamy shade
and just beginning to open...

Today I was changing the water for them when i noticed something very cool...
Over those few days, they had opened up and lightened in color...

and just a few of them had taken on varying hints of lavender...

so...

pretty...

which happens to be a delightful shade of my other favorite color...
(besides white, silly...)
Purple.

Boy, that's a weird word. Purple?!
OK, let's find out.....

The word 'purple' comes from the Old English word purpul which derives from the Latin purpura, in turn from the Greek πορφύρα (porphura), name of the Tyrian purple dye manufactured in classical antiquity from a mucus secreted by the spiny dye-murex snail.  - Wikipedia

The mucus of a snail, everyone. You learned it here.

And that's all oneshabbychick's got on this crazy weekend...

Except a big shout-out to some great bloggers who featured me this weekend!

  1. Right. Well I guess I'll never view purple quite the same again lol. I heart your wire stand. What is on the little upturned china piece? It looks like a recipe, but I can't quite make it out.

    Cheers,
    Lisa x

  2. Hi Lisa. I guess this little piece needs a feature of its own one of these days... it's an old pudding mold, with a recipe printed on the side for "Corn Flour Blanc-Mange." If you click on the photo you can view it larger if you want to see more detail. It's a cool little piece of ironstone! I'll have to research it... I'd love to know more about it. Thanks for the visit!

  5. Hey, I'm the Shabby Chick, too! I'm an Interior Designer, and I have an antique store called
'The Shabby Chick' Antique.Vintage.Cottage......I'm closing my shop, though, because we're moving 1,200 miles away in 13 days. Anyway, about me, my signature style is Shabby Chic, and I refinish antiques, sometimes in a beachy cottage style, other times more "preppy" cottage, and I'm a HUGE fan of "frenchy" cottage. Just thought I'd stop and say hi...cute blog!
