A Little B & A......

OK, I am still over here "practicing what I preach"...
 and since there's a lot of you-know-what to go through around here...
I didn't want to leave you hanging...

So I'm posting a little Before & After  eye candy...
because who doesn't love a little B & A? ;-}

This one came about because I was wanting a shabby white desk in our home office...
and what we had was a giant, honey-colored wood montrosity which we'd gotten from friends for free.

So, here's my "before" pic...
these awful, noisy, heavy, ugly, did I say awful, closet doors in our house...
that no longer stay on their tracks... awful......

so bad that we have slowly been removing them from all our closets...
and had, in fact, recently removed some from a bedroom when I was in the market
for that shabby white desk...
and suddenly my little lightbulb went on!

And once I'd had my lightbulb moment,
I could not get to IKEA fast enough to find some fun legs for this project...
I was delighted with the quirkiness I found there.....

a very fun, funky spin on a traditional silhouette...

And here she is,
my closet-door-turned-shabby-white-desk...
Long and lean, just like I wanted...
and quite shabby.....
I really like how she turned out.

Now if we could just get rid of those honey-colored drawers still hanging around... cuz they're "useful".....

not to mention the mess of wires I try to hide behind the ugly drawers.....
(what is one to do with those? Any suggestions?!)

And that wall above the desk,
with one postcard for decoration?
uh huh... that's on the list, too.......

But despite all that, she's makin' me happy...
{and that PB desk chair? $25 at a moving sale... score}

OK... it's time to get back to the piles, but I had to include this shot...
for the photo that popped up on the screensaver at that moment..... heehee

Have a lovely day, chickadees!

more soon...

p.s. It's funny how eye-opening seeing your life from a different perspective can be. I have since cleaned up that desktop...
and Mr. Shabby has promised to clean up the wires :-}

  2. Puh-leez let me know what you come up with to solve the wire problem. I love the desk - brilliant. As far as those drawers are concerned, I use a product called ESP. If it's available where you are it's awesome. Spray or paint it on. Wait 90 minutes, and you can paint ANY surface. I've painted veneer. I'm going to use it on some marble candle sticks soon. I've done a post about it - taking the pain out of painting. It could be just the answer you need.

    Cheers,

  4. What a clever girl you are!!! I love the idea of using doors for table/desk tops! One less item for the dump! yay! Those legs are just adorable with it, too! If I were you, I'd paint those drawers white and hang a huge, pretty framed corkboard or chalkboard above your desk. :) Great job!!! Have a Happy FNF!

  7. Oh, how cute it turned out! I used some bifold doors for shelves! Why not recycle and it doesn't end up in a landfill? Great idea! (She's got great legs.)

  11. Thanks for the ideas and complements, everybody! As soon as I "noticed" that ugly little thing under the desk, I had an itch to make it over, pronto!
    Lisa, thanks for the ESP suggestion... I'll have to look for it, but there must be something equivalent around. Anyway, material for another B & A... ;-}
